Robocopy can do the same thing but I like to have reports and gui interface for backup jobs. So you will need to back up the whole drive one time on each removable drive, from then on only the changed (newer versions and new files/folders) will copy to the external device.įor instance I have a 1 TB drive, it took 5 hours to seed the mirror, now when I run the same backup job it only takes 20 minute and only copies changed files.
If you are just making a mirror copy each day to a different disk, only the files that have changed will copy. I should have stated, but our server is just a normal Windows Server 2016, not a server running in a VM. Lately, it just would not see the registered drives even though they were connected and functional.
I've been plagued by weird software issues. Many have recommended the Veeam software, but I've not had very good luck with it. Would Robocopy handle keeping the takeaway in sync with the non-takeaway without having to format the drive each time? I sort of like the idea of just copying the files from the non-takeaway backup drive to the takeaway drive (why backup twice?), but I'm guessing that I'd have to reformat the takeaway each time before copying the files? What is he backing up (files or DB or while VMs or physical server) ? Each have its owb recovery process and therefore different backup strategies. Always look at backup from recovery point of is useless taking backups that cannot be recovered.
